Concept

This piece is my goodbye to competitive sport. Seventeen years of swimming reaching it’s inevitable end has me looking back with fondness on the people I’ve swum with and the moments we’ve shared. This piece represents the nature of nostalgic memory - like a cooler filled with drinks, I can reach in and select any moment to reminesce. Now, I look into my cooler of memories, and I’m having trouble deciding which to drink in first.

This piece was created with digital collage techniques in Adobe Photoshop, layering images from various years of my college swim career with a stock image of soda cans. For uniformity, each scene was blurred to match the depth of field of the base shot, and an over arching texture (a photograph I took of watercolor paper) was added using a multiply layer. The photo collage was then taken into Adobe Lightroom Classic, where I made final adjustments to the image.
