Project 4: Double Exposure
Fleeting
[Photomanipulation]

Concept

This piece in inspired by the fleeting nature of memory and friendships. Especially in college, friends come and go as people graduate and move on. These pieces represent the struggle of trying to hold on to friends and moments, only to have them elude your grasp, like smoke or a bird eludes capture.

These pieces were created with a double exposure effect in photoshop, using one layer, masked to a white background as the base. I had to choose which image to use based on which had the most contrast and the best option with a white background. From there, a second image was overlaid, and blended using a “screen” filter. Adjustments for blending and exposure were made with adjustment layers and clipping masks. The final image was adjusted with a levels modifyer, and a color scheme from a film photograph my housemate (Dom) took at a concert over the weekend.
